WORDS THAT MATTER
You will face many defeats in life, but never let yourself be defeated." - Maya Angelou
‘Her Land, Her rights’ - Inna Modja @ the United Nations, New York
New York, 17 June 202 – Women leaders from around the world took centre stage at the United Nations General Assembly calling for women’s land rights at a music-filled event to mark Desertification and Drought Day.
Our Founder, UNCCD Goodwill Ambassador, Inna Modja had the incredible honor, to read out a powerful call to action urging world leaders to remove the legal barriers that prevent women owning and inheriting land.
She did it with her very own daughter, Valentina, to demonstrate the crucial legacy of passing on this right to future generations!
The event was held on 17 June, World Day to Combat Desertification - to advance women’s land rights and female leadership in sustainable land management.

For Jaeyoun Kim, the ocean is more than a connection to family; it’s a path to healing. Patagonia Films’ Daughter of the Sea follows Jaeyoun, who leaves her island home in South Korea to pursue a more traditional career path in Seoul. But as her mental health begins to unravel and depression sets in, she decides to join the haenyeo, Jeju Island’s famed “women of the sea.” For centuries, these free divers and fisherwomen—some in their 80s—have dived more than 30 feet to gather seafood for their families and villages. Following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother, Jaeyoun learns what it means to become a haenyeo and why returning to the ocean ultimately saves her.

FACTS TO IMPRESS YOUR FRIENDS
As many as one in five people says that coriander has a soapy taste. This is likely to be due to a super-sensitivity to chemicals called aldehydes, which are present in coriander and are also used to perfume soaps and detergents.
In 2012, researchers in California analysed the DNA of over 14,000 people, identifying two genetic variants associated with the soapy taste, the most common of which is a gene coding for an odour receptor tailored to sniff out aldehydes.
